What are Independent Age’s Gifts of Independence?

A Gift of Independence is a virtual gift that brightens up a friend or loved one’s day, while changing an older person’s life. By buying a unique virtual gift instead of a tangible one, you will contribute to the vital work of Independent Age in a different way. You will be buying a unique eco-friendly and ethical gift for someone who’s inspired to help others.

How does it work?

Instead of buying a tangible present, you will buy a virtual Gift of Independence for a friend or someone you love. Once you’ve bought your gift, a gift certificate will be generated which will include your name, the name of the recipient, and a description of how that special gift will bring support, companionship and dignity to older people.

You can choose to either print the certificate to give or email the certificate to them – it’s up to you!

How will I get the certificate?

You can print or save your certificate immediately after purchasing the gift for your loved one. The link to download the certificate will appear on the Thank You confirmation page at the end of the payment process.

How is my money spent?

The gift that you choose is a representation of how we could spend your valuable donation towards our work. You will be helping us to provide services such as weekly friendship visits or calls to lonely older people; distributing our award-winning guides about the issues that matter to older people; and helping us campaign to make the UK the best place in the world to grow older.

Can I return a virtual charity gift?

As each Gift of Independence counts as a one-off donation rather than a purchase, under Charity Commission rules we are unable to offer you a refund.

Can I place my order over the phone?

Yes, you can. To buy a Gift of Independence over the phone, just ring us on 020 7605 4223. We are open 9am - 5pm, Monday to Friday.

What can I do if I have trouble donating through the website?

You can place your order over the phone by calling us on 020 7605 4223, 9am - 5pm, Monday to Friday. You will receive the certificate in your email and you can print it to send to your loved one or forward it to them as an email.

Will my payment details be secure?

All transactions are safe and secure. Stripe, PayPal, Google Pay and Apple Pay protect your financial information with data encryption and anti-fraud technology to curb the risk of data fraud and to keep personal information secure.

Am I limited to the number of gifts I can send?

No, you are free to purchase as many Gifts of Independence as you would like.

How do I know if my online order has been successful?

You will receive a confirmation email shortly after completing your order.

What should I do if I have not received my confirmation email or if I have problems downloading my certificate?

Check your junk mail, as sometimes confirmation emails can get lost in your inbox. If you still haven’t received your confirmation email, or you cannot download your certificate, call us on 020 7605 4223 or email us on supporters@independentage.org
